The 2003 eFilmCritic 300+ DVD Gift Guide
by Erik Childress

What started as a small little project has grown by leaps and bounds to become its own entity and a force within the industry. I could be talking about this website or I may be representing the advent of DVD itself, but alas itís just this new annual feature. Within you will find the best and greatest DVDs released in 2003 and offer some suggestions on what would make some long-cherished Christmas presents. The original plan was to suggest 100 titles. Both impossible and unfair to so many great titles, it quickly ballooned into 250 DVDs. Unable in good conscience to satisfy that ceiling, it was decided to round it up to an even 300, a perfect number just like in Bowling. OK, itís 306 titles.

In this guide, we break it down for you. What latest theatrical releases hit DVD this year? How many great special editions were there and is it impossible not to be amazed at the amount of television making the transition to the format? And if you have the means, we highly recommend picking up one of the amazing box sets from The Lord of the Rings to Alien to the long-awaited release of the Indiana Jones trilogy.

So take a look through a guide and you tell me if itís possible to edit it down to 100. And imagine the possibilities as titles on display will be on tap in one or more of our forthcoming DVD contests.
