I've been duped MANY times on the old "good trailer / crapsandwich movie" deal. It's the classic bait & switch. This flick could be A) a great little surprise, or B) LXG meets Catwoman.

Obviously I'm hoping for the former.

Opens July 1st.

Wowie wow wow, this looks terrible. Miserable. Unwatchable.

But it has the Commish, so that's points.

I'm getting a Hellboy vibe.

Which, in my case, means I'm pleasantly surprised. Alarmingly so.

When I saw the trailer in front of Elektra I went home and told my comic book enthusiast friend about how bad I thought it looked.

"This summer....1 will be bad....4 will be fantastic."

Who came up with that craptruck?

Director of Taxi, everyone. Just saying.

I have not gotten to see a current trailer, only a teaser with unfinished special effects while working Manhattan Toy Fair and paying my buddies at Marvel a visit- looked fine from what I saw- a CGI test rendering of Doom and The Thing duking it out through the Baxter Building, Johnny fully immolated, The Thing looking really good, and most importantly to me, Doom having the hood and cloak, though his backstory is going to suffer hard. Unfortunately this did not give me much insight into performances and plot, save for the origin sequences which appear to be competent, except for Doom being in the capsule with them- compressed story and all.

I don't know the Human Torch actor- was not interested in the films he has been in, but not concerned. Ioan Gruffaud, "King Arthur" aside, was believable, talented, and inspiring in the A&E series "Horatio Hornblower" I have absolute faith in his ability to play Reed. Michael Chiklis as the thing- this is a man who can play the Commish one moment, a dead on Curly Howard in another, and then turn on a dime and play Vic Mackey- I cannot wait for his Ben Grimm (I weep for the inevitable loss of the trademark cigar).

Nope, my beef is with Jessica "Aren't You on Skinemax Yet?" Alba. I cannot think of a more boring, tepid decision. Well, I can, but they are equal in their badness. I would have gone with someone who could have done pretty, sweet, earnest and intellectual rather than pouty and, well that's about it- anyone can learn how to throw a kick. She's the Amstel Light version of Jennifer Garner- who I barely register on Alias, finding the show stronger in the full ensemble. Maybe Julia Styles. Perhaps Sarah Michelle Geller. If the film took place post-Franklin, CERTAINLY Naomi Watts. "Dark Angel" indeed. God Damn that's a poor choice for Sue.

Anyway, I should probably see the trailer before commenting further, but that would mean sitting still through Elektra- I don't care if I'm supposed to review this sort of thing- anyone with 3/4ths of a mind should smell the dogshit here and step around it. A spin off of Daredevil that can't even bring itself to reference the first film, from all accounts. Wretched.

Looks a LOT better.

Still not sure about it, though.

Just saw the trailer at Toy Fair while visiting Marvel- Looks great to this comic fan's eyes. And I am a BIG FF fan who hates seeing my heroes destroyed by lousy movies.

That 'Thing hitting the semi trailer' shot alone will sell $40m in tickets.

haha, i do love Penny Arcade.

as for the movie - looks somewhere between Hellboy and Xmen. Could go either way, but I'm gonna give it the bene and say it'll be Xmen good.

maybe it'll look better on the big screen, but The Thing's body makeup kinda looks cheesy

New Trailer, which means this movie now has more trailers than it does skeptical fanboys.

Johnny Storm's either going to save this movie, or completely ruin it. He's one wisecrack away from Obnoxiousville.

The rest of the film? Gonna blow.

They're SO playing up the wisecracks in this trailer. And Grimm never seems to be in any shot that doesn't involve a truck or a bridge.

My quality meter is starting to drop on this one.

Confused Not looking forward to this because: Ioan Gruffud has been in 2 bad movies that I know of, King Arthur and 102 Dalmatians. Chris Evans couldn't act in Cellular, even though he was the star. Jessica Alba IS NOT Sue Storm(and yes, I know people have said this before, but I feel the need to say it again for them). I don't know about Mike Chiklis(haven't seen The Shield yet), so he could save the movie, but I don't know. Tim Story has not impressed me with his directing skills.(thought Barbershop was okay, but not great, sat through an hour of Taxi before I returned it to BlockBuster, that wasn't a good movie) Confused I don't think I'll see it in theaters.
