Good news! Reports are coming in that Police Story will finally arrive on region 1 DVD.

Bad news! It's got a commentary track AND a featurette with Brett Ratner.

I just threw up in my mouth a little.

Gracious alive. While we're at it, let's have Tony Scott do a featurette on the Once Upon a Time in America DVD.

Not a fan of martial arts films, nor of Brett Ratner (I'm not going to call him a "homophobic, misogynistic, misanthropic moron" like a certain film critic did, but the word "hack" comes to mind), but surely they could have found someone with greater accomplishments as a director to be talking about the film.

And I'm glad you haven't had to listen to Jackie Chan's films dubbed in French, in which language they give him an accent that makes one believe Charlie is his grandfather.

Unless the commentary track is a replacement for the real audio, I don't think this counts as "ruining".

I mean, it's a lame release, but if you're buying the disc for the film itself, and the film is intact, I don't see the problem. Obviously, it would be better to have commentary by somebody good, but I don't think this is any worse than a bare-bones release.
