I use eFilmCritic a lot and it's very useful for quickly understanding what a film is about BUT...

Why are nearly all your reviews nearly always so negative? It's as if your reviewers are competing for who can be most sarcastic, most critical and most unkind.

It's much easier to criticise than create you know!

Frankly I just find it boring, this endless, smart-arsed slagging off of everything you write about. It betrays a lack of skill and a very low opinion of your readers.

Why not try a little balance, a little positivity, a little more judgement rather than resorting to the same old, same old knocking copy?

Well, let's look at the data. Of the last 100 reviews posted:

13 were one-star
22 were two-star
23 were three-star
29 were four-star
13 were five-star

I don't think that's negative; the mode is "Worth a Look", the median is "Just Average", the mean is a hair above "Just Average". I'd say that's pretty healthy, skewing positive but not so much so that we come off as cheerleaders.

Another example of the riveting wit that passes for intelligent comment?

So why waste your time and effort on watching them/reviewing them?

Thank you JaySeaver for a useful reply

I've had more than my fair share of one-star reviews, but I personally keep watching all films hoping to find the diamond in the rough. I'm not sure how trashing a film that deserves to be trashed shows a low opinion of our readers. If anything, it tells them why a film may not be good. Also, there are many films on site that have divided us as well, with some highly recommending while others not so much.

If you want constant positivity about all films, then visit our "Criticwatch" section. Many of those quotewhores love everything, just to get readers, or their name on a DVD box.

Finally, a visit to our "Top 20s" page will show you some excellent films, as well as the losers...and those scores come from both our critics AND the general movie-going audience like yourself.

Wow! Who knows where I can get a fit, young and willing "quotewhore"? That sounds like a really good movie!

Thanks for the tip on your Top 20 page.
