Backstory: Apparently there's some kind of new government program in the UK introduced to help relieve global warming by cutting down on carbon emissions, et al. So they got Richard Curtis (you know Curtis, dontcha?) to make a "funny" short film publicizing it. They ended up with the most catastrophically stupid idea ever committed to film.

After its Internet debut was met with universal derision, not to mention doubts about the sanity of everyone involved in the project, the video was pulled--but nothing ever disappears from the net:

Keep in mind that the film isn't some over-the-top satire of environmentalism. No, this was backed by sincere global warming activists who somehow thought this would be a credible way to promote their cause.

I can't imagine how the fuck anybody thought this was a good idea. Maybe everyone was so thrilled at having secured the involvement of Richard Curtis that they just sat there cheerfully nodding their heads at everything he proposed. For some reason it reminds me of Joe Eszterhas defending Showgirls by calling it a profound feminist statement.

Yeah, I'd heard about this. Ludicrous, yet hilarious.

Ah yes, Richard Curtis. Blackadder was hilarious, but apart from that? "Mr. Bean" managed to outstay its welcome, thanks to the films, and his only other significant contribution to the field of British Humour was his discovery of how profoundly hilarious it was for the Church of England to ordain women.

That video was quite embarrassing, and I'm afraid, Matt, that I can't find anything hilarious in it. I wonder if it will get the Downfall treatment; it's all it deserves, really.

I don't mean intentionally hilarious; just amusing at how misguided it is. It's like some Monty Python skit, really.
