WHEREAS Blu-ray has now completely stolen HD-DVD's lunch money and given it an atomic wedgie for good measure;

WHEREAS I am now in possession of a Blu-ray player that also enables me to shoot virtual motherfuckers (i.e., a PS3);

WHEREAS my tax return might be invested in an HD TV;

I need some suggestions as to what to feed the machine.

DVD Beaver is an excellent resource with nice screenshots/comparisons, and I've been looking at their Blu-ray reviews more closely than I was, say, a month ago. But nothing beats firsthand reports from average Joes.

I've heard great things about the Kubrick Blu-rays. I've heard truly shitty things about the Bram Stoker's Dracula Blu-ray.

Sound off, y'all.

Well, I just watched the HD-DVD of 2001, and I assume the Blu-Ray is just as eye-popping.

I've also heard awesome things about the Pixar discs.

Stay away from Fox catalog discs.

They will make you cry.

Interesting about Fox, considering how awful their library titles were in the early years of DVD. Must be a trend with them.

Things that look great on blu ray: Pixar movies, Criterion collection films, and David Fincher joints

The most startling Blu-ray experience I've had was with The Adventures of Robin Hood with Errol Flynn. This was a color film made when color films were still not the norm. Gorgeous on Blu-ray. To tell the truth, where most Blu-rays are concerned, I can't tell the difference. This is the big exception.
