No, I'm not kidding. Like it or not, that movie creeped me out, even if it didn't make much sense. In fact, the unrated DVD makes for a much better film, as it fills in some plot holes. Some.

I think it would be stretching to call few of those "horror films" - American Psycho and Battle Royale, in particular. And as for Ichi the Killer - well, let's just say it takes a special sort of person to get through a viewing of the film without feeling a little sick - in both senses of the word. Takashi Miike is one truly disturbed individual. I liked Audition, though. That one seems more like a horror film to me.

American Psycho is a horror film, but I may be stretching Battle Royale. At least I didn't mention Miike's Vistor Q. Shocked I thought that it was a little off center for a dysfunctional family and how Q uses dysfunctional ways to bring them together.

So I finally saw one of my must see movies of the summer! Last night we went to High (Haute) Tension, and I know some people didn't like the freako ending but I liked the twist. Won't spoil it for others, so I'll just say that it had me tense, all right. I don't think I had any nails left by the end of the movie.

I still haven't found out when it will be released, but I did stumble upon some news about my other must see, Unholy. At Arrow in the Head there was a link to part of a script (and some transcript from the online game) which is intriguing - I like that the protagonist is an older woman after all these teen slasher pics.

Still waiting for Land of the Dead - just 10 more days and I am there! I don't suppose anyone out there has seen a sneak preview of it yet, have they?

Edited for bad tags.

I am so excited about all the cool horror movies coming out this summer! The one I really want to see is Romero's Land of the Dead - the remake of Dawn was okay, but nobody does zombies like Romero!

Two other movies I'm psyched about are that French one, Haute Tension, and the little indie movie that could I keep reading about on the net, Unholy. (Doesn't hurt that Unholy has that hottie from Buffy in it)

So anyone else heard of some good horror movies coming out later this year?

Maybe she isn't, but the language comes pretty close. It's difficult to tell, sometimes.

Visitor Q makes baby Jesus cry. Crying or Very sad

I was able to sit through Ichi the Killer. Hell, I even have it on DVD along with Audition. I also sat through Gozu, Izo, and Happiness of the Katakuris. I'd like to think my tolerance for Japanese shock horror is pretty high (I also own copies of Freeze Me and the entire Guinea Pig Collection on DVD), but Visitor Q was a difficult pill to swallow. It seemed like Miike was trying to make a picture that satirized the whole family-film genre by making a movie about a family trying to reconnect by celebrating their own hidden, sadistic desires, but the film's exploitation of the family's menacing nature seemed so staggeringly bizarre and sadistic that it caused the film to sort of collapse in on itself and turn into nothing more than one, giant mess. Besides, Miike already nailed the whole family-film satire with Happiness of the Katakuris (which came out the same year as Visitor Q did) so it felt unnecessary. Still, I think hes a talented horror director.

One thing I find cool about Miike is how he's expanding his horizons. His film Zebraman was a legit attempt to make a more PG or PG-13 oriented picture. As far as I'm concerned, he succeeded and Zebraman came off as a very fun picture.

I guess what I'm really trying to say here is...Miike is the fucking man. Twisted Evil

Thank you, Dave. Nice to know not everyone around here is on a witch hunt when it comes to new-ish posters.

I'm not sure why people on this message board are so paranoid about "shills" but it seems like anyone with a post count under a thousand gets mugged whenever they say something remotely positive about a movie. I guess for my own safety I should stick to bashing stinkeroo films until I get a Monkey badge or whatever. Rolling Eyes

Guys,

Ayla gets the 2-week Angry Jew Get Out of Jail Free card.

We should be vigilantly annoying to the shillers, but not so much that we alienate some potential new friends.

Besides, even if she is a shill - she's shilling for Romero

Pedro grants her his protection.

LOL! I wish I worked for Romero! To be decked out in zombie drag in one of his films would be a dream come true. Halloween is my favorite holiday and I've done the rotted corpse costume a few times - the best was when I was a dead cheerleader with a tire mark across my back. I "borrowed" the uniform from my sister and she was quite pissed when she found out I poured fake blood all over it. (C'mon, like she was ever going to wear it again after she graduated high school)

Thanks AJ and Pedro for keeping the big kids from picking on me in the playground.

Don't forget UNDEAD, the aussie zombie flick. I don't know if it's been distributed here in the states yet, but the trailer looks pretty cool:

Keep an eye on these boards and you'll soon find out why. They're like cockroaches, they keep popping up so much.

And welcome, by the way.

Just watched a couple more.

Cannot recall name, but that Anna Paquin flick was okay.
And saw Boogeyman last night.
Not a scary boogeyman, but who was the dark cloudy guy? Laughing

Yeah good call on that one Laura.

I guess Blade counts as a horror movie that I enjoyed. I think we did a thread a while ago about sequels that sucked and this one was way up there IMHO. What is it about horror movies that lend themselves to sequels so readily?

Someone also mentioned Jacob's Ladder. That was an insiduous movie. I watched, didn't think about it that much, then watched it again and realized what a freaky movie it was. Same thing with Flatliners although I know almost all of you will laugh at that one. Smile

Two Words: The Machinist

Watch it, watch it again. If you liked stuff like Jacob's Ladder, you'll dig it.

I loved it, although the score sounded like it was from a Hitchcock movie. It seemed a little out of place.

Christian Bale is fucking amazing, though. The Reznik character was like Patrick Bateman at the end of his downward spiral. Absolutely shocking, and brilliant.

Heh. It's come and gone already over here. You could probably buy it on DVD. It's not really worth it, though. There are far better zombie movies to see, in my humble opinion.
