I just saw "Klimt" at the Film Center in Chicago....It was directed by Raul Ruiz and stars John Malkovich(?!) as Gustav Klimt...I was prepared for total cheese a la "Lust For Life", but that wasn't quite the case...To be honest I'm still not sure what I thought of it; one thing that was a relief was that Malkovich didn't over-act for once, in fact he was sort of anonymous...However, Egon Schiele, played by Nikolai Kinski( Klaus's grandson?) really hams it up...Kind of Nosferatu crossed with Mr.Burns...Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone here had seen this film and what they thought of it...

Insert 'nobody has seen the Klimt, but if you feel around you can find it eventually' joke here.

Don't take it too hard, dmitry. You're new here and it's all good. More often than not, we like to go for the ha-ha, even when it's an obvious Klimpt joke (which is always funny, I don't care who you are). Stick around, though. We do get serious from time to time, just not always "Film Comment" serious, although Paquin has yet to chime in. Plus, you're a Chicago boy (or girl?) and you support the Siskel. Nothing wrong with that.

I think you did get your serious response: Nobody has seen it. That's why everyone made jokes instead.

Speak for yourself. I have seen it eleven times. It is perhaps the second or third greatest movie about Klimt ever made.

He's working on the second part of his three-part response about how movies about Klimt no longer matter.

Well...As I stand on this bridge, about to jump because no one will take me seriously, your soothing words almost make me want to reconsider...But then I wonder, what would John Malkovich do????

I prefer Klimt's earlier work - Play Mimsty for Me, The Outlmaw Josmie Walmes - over his newer stuff - Mystmic River, Lettmers from Imwo Jima.

Judging from the reviews at IMDB, you probably wouldn't want to know anyway.
