Ya know, I thought the most important elements of this movie were really dissapointing. Namely, the actors. It was presented as a superb ensemble cast. And DeNiro and Pesci were over the top, flat, boring characters.
The cinematography: superb. Plot: how can yet another gangster movie NOT be predictable? Writing: not too shabby.
Speaking of plot, here's a summary: Two buddy mobsters move to Vegas to make money and stuff. They run a casino. De Niro takes care of business, Pesci takes care of the beatings. Shit happens. That pretty much sums it up. Oh, Sharon Stone parades around like a fool.
What I found lacking in this movie is simple: the characters didn't accomplish what they were supposed to. Stone was supposed to have redeeming qualities somewhere. What? I think they wanted me to like Pesci. I know they wanted me to feel bad for him...later on in the movie. And DeNiro simply plods through this one. His character is neither the mobster with a heart or the cold hearted no regrets tough guy. So what's the appeal? I frankly don't get any sense of motivation for this character.Regardless, this movie is worth a fan's time. As for non-genre fans, I'd stay out. 3 sporks.
