"It should've been called 'Mildly Unpleasant Girls'"
2 stars

Well, I kept waiting and waiting for them to start showing some badness and start whooping some honky tonk ass. Guess what, it never really happened. It just makes me wonder if all the actors involved actually read the script beforehand, or if they just assumed that such a novel idea would be hard for a writer to completely botch. WRONG! They made an ASS out of U, ME, and D...D being a variable representing a level of excellence non-quatitative by its root...but I digress.

The main characters are all outlaw ex-prostitutes on the run in the 19th century American west. Stowe is the unemotive leader, Masterson is the snotty other-side-of-the-tracks girl, McDowell is the airheaded aphrodite, Barrymoore is the nurturer...and why I even went to the trouble to describe their shallowness is beyond me! KILL ME NOW! EVISCERATE ME WITH A SPORK! (ahem) Anyways, each of the characters have about as many dimensions as a drafting board diagram of Kate Moss. Their emotions run the gamut from ditzy, to blank, to snotty, to bored. Annie Oakley they ain't. Sheesh, this isn't even Raimi's version of "the Quick and the Dead"!

In fact, this movie is so forgettable that I can't even remember the basic storyline. And I just saw it a few weeks ago!

They're prostitutes, they get fed up or something and do something that makes them wanted, blahblah, they're on the run, they meet up with some sleezy guy that Stowe used to ride with, blahblah, he doublecrosses them and beats up Stowe, yaketyyahyah, some guy played by Dermot Mulroney wants revenge on the sleazy guy and his father for something they did to his family, yakketysmakety, Dermot saves Stowe's life, blah blah. z-z-z-z-z-z-zz--zz-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z

This movie might've been fun if they had realized how improbable the situation was for the time period and just went full on overboard with it....have Barrymoore do stuff like chew tobacco, spit baccer juice on scorpions and snakes ala Josey Wales style, or have a spring loaded double six-shooter device that shoots out of her breasts....SOMETHING other than what we got...a tepid western trying to be believable.

My god, I've gotten sleepy just REVIEWING this movie! The female "Young Guns" this ain't! Instead of this, they should've done "Young Nuns" about a bunch of pistol packing frontier sisters...Yeah! Only watch this if you really love Drew Barrymoore or wanna see Madeline Stowe's wonderful collar bones...it might be worth it for that. Otherwise, feed it to the lions!
