"Note to viewer: There are no actual characters named Amy."
I can't believe no one has reviewed this yet. For shame. This is one of my favorite movies.
Summary: Ben Affleck is Holden.(Ben Affleck is cute) His best friend is Banky, played by Jason Lee. (Jason Lee is cool & cute when he has facial hair) They are comic book artists. At a conference Ben meets Alyssa, played by Joey Lauren Adams, and they become friends. She is a lesbian. Despite this, Holden falls in love with her, and after much angst they begin dating. When Holden discovers Alyssa's wild sexual past, he flips out, and they break up. Throughout this, Banky has been very disapproving of the entire relationship. The ending is...well, you just have to see it.
The writing is superb. The characters multi-faceted and wonderfully portrayed. You can even get past Joey's squeaky voice once you're into the movie. Jason Lee steals almost every scene he is in, and Ben is wonderful as leading man. The humor is dirty, and the talk explicit, so i don't know if you wanna rent this one with mom...or your mom could be cool - I don't know.
The ending is sort of anti-climactic, but in a way that follows from the rest of the movie, so it's not out of place. It's an odd combination of fantasy (male fantasy haha) with a firm base in reality through setting and writing. It is definately worth a look. A bold new spin on the romantic comedy. 4 sporks.
