"I love this movie. I love it to death. But the best Batman film?"
This is not all that it could be. I love it. Don't get me wrong. But it is not the great movie it could be. It is close. But three things fuck it up. I mean really fuck it up. I don't know about everybody, but they fucked it up for me. Okay, here it is.... and this is a spoiler so don't read beyond this paragraph if you want to remain unspoiled.Joker dies, he happened to be the one who killed Batmanís parents, and Vicki Vale learns Batman's secret identity. Stupid man. Burton lost points with me because of these three things. It seems Hollywood to do this. That's because it is.
A lesser problem with this film is the gun factor. He was shooting at the Joker. Uh-uh. Alot of people found this to be a bigger problem, but no, I let it slide. He didn't kill anyone through gunfire. he only kills one person. The Joker. Stupid stupid man.
I think the rest of the movie is perfect. Well, not perfect. Gordon was too old. I know this is Burtons' vision, but I still feel it detracted from the rest of the flick to have the commissioner be so out of date.
That's the thing though- this isn't exactly a Batman movie. It's Burton's version of Batman. Which is cool. it isn't that far off from the real one. But still...
Bruce Wayne is also supposed to be friends with Dent. I would've liked to have seen more here, so the sequel could've been Two-Face. Oh well I say. Shitmaker did a fine job of fucking that character to crap.
Another problem with this movie is the scene where Vicki finds out about Bruce being Batman (I think that's vice versa but not covered in this film). The problem is we find out what it's like to be Batman through the dialogue, but it's to a woman. Nope. Stupid stupid stupid man. That conversation was Alfred talk. But I guess that would've been GAY so it couldn't happen.
Anyway, go see the film. You'll like it I am sure. Just remember, you comic geeks out there, I garuntee a little disappointment will reach your soul. promise.By the way, Jack Nicholson is really a great Joker. See it for him alone. He does steal the show incredibly well. Trust me.
