Beast Within, The

"its better than 'Castaway'"
3 stars

Famous for two things: Monster rape scene and the first use of air bladder technology. Other than that, not much to brag about.

I remember when I was young *COUGH* years ago I saw the advertisement for this flick. It screamed "WE DARE YOU TO WATCH THE LAST 5 MINUTES WITH YOUR EYES OPEN"

Well goddamn that scared me!

Years later, I had just got done banging my girlfriend with some great hot unprotected sex, when we decided to rent a scary movie. Saw guess what I saw in Blockbuster: "The Beast Within".
Woo Hoo! I thought, hot sex AND a movie that I remember from my childhood. I told my GF all about how the last 5 minutes was supposed to be REAL scary.

Well guess what..........c'mon guess..........I WASN'T SCARED!!

It's not the movies' fault, technology had passed it by in terms of gross out effects. BUT, this flick is historical for ONE reason: it was the FIRST use of the now famous "air bladder" technology, which simulates distortion of body features beneath a latex skin.

Yes, this unassuming little flick started it all.

And it also has a pretty cool soon where the monster rapes a girl (like the scene from Legend of the Overfiend:2).

In a nutshell, its a tired looking dated flick by todays standards, but worth a peek if you get it at a weekly rate. Hell, its better than "Castaway".

"The Beast Within" is not without merit.
