"I'd stay for the Foo Fighters song at the end..."
Right out, I'm not an X-Phile. I don't watch the show all that often, and I've never read the comic book. With that said, you've gotta understand that I can't say, "this movie disappointed me". It can't. What do I compare it to?
Flat out, it WAS a pretty damn good flick, and I can't say otherwise.
As Special Agents Mulder and Scully, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson shines. Or rather, broods, as their characters demand such emotion. Between the two, they create some pretty damn good and much needed sexual tension, 'cos we all know that sex sells.
I've got one bitch though... that's Martin Landau. Quite frankly, he looks too damn crazy for someone who's supposed to be secretive and informative. He's just not "Mr. X" or "Deep Throat" (hey, I said I just don't watch X-Files OFTEN).
However, what really did it for me. I mean, what was the clincher... was the FX. OUTSTANDING, I say. As far as the Science Fiction genre goes, I haven't seen FX as good as this in a while. The collapsing Antarctic landscape alone merits some awe.All in all, this movie would make a great 2 parter on the TV show, but because of the FX, it was released as a movie. And it works.
