"Australia needs more ego."
3 stars

Dan Vardy Cobb (Michael Dalley) moves to central Melbourne to pursue his dream of becoming a rock star and being bigger than Tina Arena.

Of course his agents are more interested in grabbing his $ and this leads even the egotistical Dan to compromise on achieving his dreams…for the meantime. The acting is great by Dalley and his long suffering girlfriend (Sally Lightfoot).

Despite being shot on mini-dv the 35mm blowup is excellent except in a few car scenes where the windcreen `burns out’. Some may find Dan a bit daggy or un-Australian with his bigger than life ego but that is probably just what you need in the music industry. Overall it’s an amusing movie that gives viewers yet another peek at life in Australia.

Watch out for more Dan episodes in the future when his career really takes off! (Gawain McLachan--filmnet.org.au)
