Happiness (*** ˝) - Raise your hand if you wanna see a movie about loneliness, sexual perversion and pedophilia. Oh yeah - and it’s a comedy. Well, sort of.It depends on what you think is funny. This is a dark, sick comedy in the same vein as the director’s previous work, Welcome to the Dollhouse, which I also admired very much. I found myself laughing and laughing hard at several scenes in the film. But I was equally disturbed at several scenes too, including a later one between a father and a son. This is not a film for everyone and it’s hard for me to recommend even though I do believe it’s a great film. It also contains the best use of White Gravy since There’s Something About Mary. This ranks in the same category of a film like Your Friends and Neighbors, about people we know or at least think we know - which is usually scarier than anything you can find in Urban Legend.I don’t wanna get all psychoanalytical about the film right now, and to describe too much of the film will be giving away most of its pleasures. I do recommend it. Yes I do - because it’s a great film - and I recommend any film I think is good…or great. However, you have been warned.
