What a cool movie. Well, a cool premise.Moll Flanders is an orphan, because as soon as she's born her mother is hanged for thievery. An independant spirit in a time when women couldn't even vote, she is a very inspirational character, and Robin Wright shows she was only on Santa Barabara for the steady paychecks. She works as a servant and a prositute, a model and a mother. We hear her story as it is told through Hibble (Freeman, who has got to have the coolest voice ever, even more than James Earl Jones) as he tells it to her daughter, while he brings her to America to a mysterious, generous benefactor.
The acting is excellent, as is the writing and the costuming is breathtaking. But the direction is seriously lacking, turning the drama into a plodding walk, at times it's distractingly slow.
However, that is why they put the fast forward button on the VCR.It's a period piece that me AND my mom can agree on. 4 sporks.
