one word - PORN - if you are into it, you will like this movie! My only experience has been a glimpse of the red shoe diaries on showtime. Maybe I am a prude, but this was nasty! If something like what Kubrick portrayed really exists - I don't want to know. It is not something that I need to experience.Nicole Kidman portrayed a twit! Was it really that much of a stretch? I don't think so. Tom Cruise, hottie that he is, looked like a scuzbag throughout the entire film. He is never naked, nor does he engage in any sexual acts. All those trailers about...oh it's so steamy..they had to cut 18 seconds or something out to get an "R" rating. Baloney - he doesn't do didilly. Once again the great hype machine goes into action.
As for kubrick, he is cool. He did it his way or no way, I admire that! He had to have a very warped mind, to create such films as this and clockwork orange.
two of the most interesting aspects to me, anyway were the supporting characters. Sydney Poiter as tom's friend/patient and his college nick nightingale were bang on! they made the movie for me.
the other thing that I liked was the musical score. the haunting melody, I will be hearing in my head for the next week. Kubrick missed his calling, he should have been a psychologist! the movie made me think about marriage and love and couples....can you ever really trust someone?? If Kubrick were to answer, he would say NO! His paranioa certainly comes across in his films. hopefully the audience won't be paranoid enough to go see it.I saw part of Chris Isaak's video...and those two minutes that I saw were better than the entire 2 hr and 30 min movie!!
