"A wet dream of raunchy humor, social commentary and Cheesy-Poofs"
Nobody is safe. Not God or Satan. Not Bill Gates or Winona Ryder or the US government. Media watchdog groups, lazy parents, the Baldwin brothers, and Canada also get a nice slam. South Park:BLU has more balls than any 12 movies you could pick at random.Wow. I don't think I've ever seen a movie that so joyously wallows in it's own wonderful vulgarity. It's so raunchy and over-the-top that you either surrender and laugh or end up very angry. African Americans, homosexuals, Jews, women, kids.... You name it, they're offended. The MPAA ratings board takes a particularly inspired trashing, as well.
The musical numbers are wonderfully entertaining. Especially clever is Mr. Mackey's song about alternatives to using dirty words and the Oscar-nominated 'Blame Canada'. If you're easily offended, or have never seen South Park, STAY AWAY! If you like a good dirty joke, and think you've seen it all, just wait. You'll be laughing in a horrified state half the time. It's just so wonderfully refreshing to see something that was written true to form. No ass-kissing to studio or the MPAA here. It's like Stone and Parker are daring their audience to get offended. Their brilliant move is to combine razor-sharp satire with a surreal and absurd cartoon. Imagine if this had been a live-action movie. They wouldn't have been able to do half the gags, and it would have been creepy.
If the television show is ultimately remembered as a funny yet dispoable fad from the 90s, this movie will remain as a testament to the profane and smart humor South Park was. It pushes a lot of envelopes and crosses lines, which is always a cause for praise, let alone the jaw-dropping humor it also offers in spades. Hey, if you're someone who is easily offended, maybe you SHOULD see it. You may learn something about humor. An instant comedy classic. A colorful, unbelievably vulgar and intelligent satire. Ask someone in five years if they enjoyed this one. I bet their eyes light up and they start giggling. Say what you will, but THAT'S a good movie.
