I have admitted to liking Leo. Is it so awful for me to like Keanu too? Am I unredeemable? I hope so.The reason I like Keanu is that he played to my ultimate fantasy in My Own Private Idaho. A gay for hire man who is hot and loves italian chicks. But that's off topic. Sorry.
Keanu is also pretty cool in my mind because he reinvented the action genre (not as much as bruce did with die hard, but he did introduce a series of flicks with younger, more "regular" and less "super" heroes. And he did that in this movie, Speed (no, not THAT kind of speed...sheesh...damn junkies.)
But on the off chance you never saw this movie (maybe you live on mars or something, i don't know where we get hits from on this site..., here, is a summary:Jeff Daniels and Keanu are tough as nails LA cops. The movie opens with them saving people trapped in an elevator, all part of a terrorist act by Dennis Hopper. They succeed, and Hopper is wounded in his escape. He loses a thumb. Time passes. Sandra Bullock is an annoying pissant bitch. She gets on a bus. It has a bomb on the bottom. Stuff happens, and she ends up driving. Keanu gets on board to save them, but Dennis Hopper will blow the bus up if any passengers leave and the bomb will go off by itself if the bus goes slower than 50 miles per hour.
The main appeal of the movie is that you keep hoping either Bullock or Reeves will die.
Sorry to dissapoint. They live.
I jest, for this movie really does have many strong points. Acting isn't one of them, but the rest makes up for it enough that this movie is a good romp around the pigpen. It's high paced, well thought out, good plot twists in all the right places, and it really draws the viewer in.
And when it comes down to it, the movie does exactly what you want it to do: make you sit on the edge of your chair for 120 minues, and then Keanu moves on to other things. Wish I could say the same for Ms. Bullock. It's cool to watch on video because you can frame by frame through the scene on top of the subway at the end. 4 sporks.
