Under the Tuscan Sun
[AllPosters.com] Buy posters from this movie
by Greg Muskewitz

"Actually draws away from the appeal of Italy."
1 stars

Oozingly awful chick flick from Audrey Wells, who was off to such a promising start with Guinevere, concerning a San Fran literati who divorces, and on a whim buys a villa in Tuscany, has a worldwind romance, before degenerating to even baser schmaltziness.

We’re led to believe, or are administered to in high doses, random signs and blind metaphors as wishes that mean something concrete to a woman portrayed as ridiculously flighty. All of the characters, from Diane Lane’s lead, to the machissimo Italian hunk, and the lesbian best friend, are thinly drawn caricatures, malleable from all directions to best fit into the cheesy romance conventions. Of course, real-life issues are rarely acknowledged throughout the movie (starting, for example, how Lane plans to stay in Italy without some form of residency), and the end product turns out to actually draw away the appeal of the Italian experience. With Sandra Oh and Raoul Bova.

[Not to be bothered with.]
