finally. the muppetts are back. a fter two bombs, this one holds up at last. incredibly entertaining both to kids and adults, it's campy, retro sci fi fun. very cool. four sporks.gonzo was always a favorite of mine. how can you not love a creature who just lives to lust after chickens and blow himself out of cannons? this movie centers around gonzo's search for his ethnic past (this is the nineties after all). after being contacted from space, he gets himself into a huge mess at a MIB-style facility and the rest of the gang needs to come to his rescue.
that's the summary. what makes this one better than the other cheesy plots? well, for one thing, the sets rule balls. the humor is still all kinds of campy, but it's not dumbed down or involving pirates this time.
the muppets ARE camp. so to work off of that and rework the best parts of one of their best skits (pigs in space was a great concept but piggy got repetitve) for the 90s is a great starting point. and they didn't go overboard, kept it real enough that it didn't get annoying.
the retro finale is appropriate enough in our trendy times, and done really well, i thought. and the credits. so cool.
this movie has everything you want in a muppett movie. all your favorite characters, plenty of cheese, some laugh out loud one liners, awesome celebrity cameos (can i go back to that scene with the guy from dead poet's society all tied up? mmmm mmmm)in closing, leaps and bounds better than the last two. gets four sporks from me, and if anyone knows where i can find a man with a mind like kermit and a sex drive like animal, please e-mail me, firstname.lastname@example.org
