"Personal essays on film."
3 stars

55-minute documentary about one womanís personal journey (narrated in first-person by a second woman) back to Iran to explore the deep devotion of the countryís women to their religion.

Shot on video, PBS-y in nature with a banal exposition and pedantic lectures, it certainly will contain appeal to a core audience of the religionís followers and outside scholars, but there is little done to reach beyond that audience. Director Aryana Farshad manages to capture some intriguing images and unplanned moments, but apart from that, it becomes rather impervious to criticism as the personal essay aspect of the film cannot truly be called into question; it meets its low-bar goal, and does nothing in terms of raising it thereafter, or going for extra credit hurdles.

[See it if you must.]
