Wanna know what the best part of this movie is?There's two things:
1). Eric Idle has a cameo. Even in the lamest of movies, an Eric Idle cameo can work wonders. As the man the Griswolds run over, he's a hoot and probably the funniest actor in the film.
2). "Look, kids! Big Ben, Parliament!"
That's basically it. You've got your prerequisite goofiness from the family, Beverly D'Angelo trying to be sexy, Chevy Chase trying to be funny, and the revolving door of actors playing the kids. At least there's no Cousin Eddie in this one.
Oh, and the French get made fun of. As it should be.
It's not the worst Vacation movie (Vegas Vacation made this one look like an Oscar winner), but it's still not very good. There are some funny moments, but those are far and few between. It's hard to believe that this movie was directed by the same Amy Heckerling who directed Clueless, Fast Times At Ridgemont High, and one of the more underappreciated comedies, Johnny Dangerously.
But then, she also did the first two Look Who's Talking Movies, so maybe it's not so hard to believe.Just rent the first one again.
