One of the best - if not THE best - of '97.An intricate, rich story, plotline upon plotline. There's so many interwoven story threads, so many colorful, interesting characters in this movie, that you wonder how even the smallest roles fit into the larger picture. Which brings the cast to the forefront.
Russell Crowe and Guy Pearce are fantastic, as are Kevin Spacey and Danny Devito, who fit their roles perfectly. Kim Basinger (who hasn't had a good role sine the first Batman) is drop dead gorgeous, and James Cromwell and David Strathairn continue to prove that they're two of the most underrated actors out there.
I loved nearly everything about this movie: the look, the feel, the mood, all of it. And maybe it's because I'm dense, but the whodunit? part of the story kept me guessing the whole time. It's a good movie, pure and simple, and those are hard to come by.Stylish film noir. Cool.
