"'Shall. We. Play. A. GAME?' 'Yeah. Twister would be nice, Ally.'"
Back in the day, when I was the only kid I knew who had a computer, and modems ran at about 1200bps, this flick was required viewing in my household. I wanted to be a hacker so bad. Why? Because MAtt Broderick made it cool You could bring the world to nuclear holocaust AND be a geek AND get laid!
Who could argue with that logic?
So how does War Games hold up in the light of 1999? Surprisingly well. Reason being that the attraction to this flick isn't so much the techno side of things as it is the way the film is brought together. Geek vs the FBI, geek busts loose, gets girl, helps FBI save world.. it's all great stuff.
Not sure if it's SO gripping that you'll want to go rent it right now, but you could do worse than plonk down a buck and grab this for a week on video. If he could do that with 1200bps... and i have 55,000 bps... Look out Missouri!
