The 3rd Annual HBS/EFC Oscar Pick 'Em (WIN FABULOUS PRIZES - 25 DVDs!!!)
by Erik Childress

To all who can hear my voice or better yet – read my words – you have a chance to enter the greatest Oscar contest EVER! Or, at least, the greatest Oscar contest this website has ever hosted. Our vast collection of writers have been competing against each other for the past two years, guessing the Oscar winners and duking it out for the mere honor of pride which is surely forgotten about the day after the Oscars. THIS year – we are inviting YOU THE READERS to join in on the fun. And not just for fun. To show how appreciative we are to everyone who makes this site possible and to those who prove that our writers’ efforts haven’t been in vain – we have GOODIES! Not candy or a certificate with an HBS/EFC stamp of approval – but DVDs!!! How does a collection of 25 DVDs strike you? All for the taking. Intrigued? Keep reading because it only gets better.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNERS

FIRST PLACE - Gary Heller
- 1930 points

SECOND PLACE - Chris Miller - 1860 points

THIRD PLACE - Mel Velarde - 1690 points

BOOBY PRIZE Paul Woessner - 100 points

CONTEST ANNOUNCEMENT
25 DVDs, you ask? How is that possible? What’s the catch?

Let’s clear that up immediately. There is no catch. There is no entry fee, no hidden tax and nothing you have to do for us. You just have to enter and it couldn’t be simpler. In order to join the group, just follow these simple instructions:

1. Go to (http://moviegames.yahoo.com/oscars) and click “Log in to Play Game!” (If you are not registered with Yahoo, you will have the option to “Sign up now to enjoy Yahoo! Movies.”) When you sign-up, be sure to choose the option to make your e-mail address available. That way we can contact you if you’re a winner.

2. Create a pick set (Use your first & last name to identify your picks. We absolutely MUST have the full first and last name of any entrants who are not HBS/EFC regulars. This ensures that nobody tries to offer multiple ballots. It does happen. Anyone discovered with multiple entries will be AUTOMATICALLY DISQUALIFIED!)

3. Choose “Join a Private Group” and then, when prompted, enter the following information:

Group ID#: 162 Password: hbs (Group #1)
Group ID#: 2242 Password: hbs (Group #2)
Group ID#: 3382 Password: hbs (Group #3)
(GROUPS #1, #2 & #3 ARE FILLED - MOVE ON TO GROUP #4)

Group ID#: 4326 Password: hbs (Group #4)

Then make your picks in the 24 categories for the 75th Academy Awards and the bonus question. That’s it. Don’t worry if you don’t have all your picks finalized on your ballot yet. You can change them right up until the Oscar telecast (Sunday, March 23 on ABC) by clicking the “edit” button.

Gee, that sounds like…a lot of work.” – Stifler, American Pie.

Trust me, it’s a snap. And the rewards are worth it. Oh, did we forget already? Did you distinctly remember something being written about 25 DVDs? You were not mistaken.

A number of film studios have generously provided an incredible prize package for us. In our ever-going frustration with the Oscars and the wrong films being nominated seemingly every year, our GRAND PRIZE is going to be a collection of 25 films overlooked by the Oscars in one way or another this year. By collecting the most points amongst your various Oscar picks (100 for each correct category and a maximum of 200 for the bonus question) you will be adding to your collection a copy of each of the following DVDs:

24-Hour Party People, 25th Hour, About a Boy, Bloody Sunday, Changing Lanes, Far from Heaven, Femme Fatale, Frailty, The Good Girl, The Grey Zone, Insomnia, Minority Report, Moonlight Mile, Mostly Martha, One Hour Photo, Possession, The Ring, Road To Perdition, Roger Dodger, The Rookie, The Rules of Attraction, Secretary, Signs, The Sum of All Fears and We Were Soldiers

Just for good measure, we’re also throwing in the original book and CD soundtrack of Confessions of a Dangerous Mind.

OH YEAH - HOW ABOUT THIS? AMC THEATRES IS GENEROUSLY DONATING A $50 GIFT CERTIFICATE TO THE GRAND PRIZE!

And just because we want you to really like us, the first place winner will receive 10 entries into a drawing for a DVD collection of PAST Oscar winners. Just for suspense sake, these titles will remain a surprise for now.

But what if we do all that work and come in just under 15,000, then we get nothing, right?” – Clint Howard, Gung Ho.

WRONG! 2nd and 3rd place will also receive prizes. The second place winner will receive a choice of the following DVDs (About a Boy, Far from Heaven, Frailty, The Good Girl, The Grey Zone, Minority Report, One Hour Photo, Possession, The Rules of Attraction or Secretary). We’ll even throw in the Confessions of a Dangerous Mind book & CD and 5 entries into the drawing AND another $50 Gift Certificate from AMC Theatres.

The Bronze Package will consist of the book and 3 entries. Last, but not least – OK, actually LAST PLACE will also receive a special BOOBY PRIZE from our MST3K* pile.

Everyone who enters into the contest, regardless of final placing will receive an entry into the SPECIAL DVD DRAWING. Those aspiring for the big time though will have to make it past the great writers of the site, all of whom will also have the chance to enter the contest. So get to know them. Read their stuff. Maybe you can form an alliance with them and bribe them for picks for a cut of the loot. But as our own Scott Weinberg is so fond of saying – “These are the Oscars. There are no experts.” Everyone has a chance for the Gold!

We would like to thank Universal, MGM, Lions Gate, Dreamworks, Paramount, Warner Bros., Fox, Buena Vista, Artisan and Electric Artists for their generosity. And in return, we invite you to read up on the prizes and links to where you can buy the DVDs online straight-out. We look forward to your participation and continued support.
