Steve Carell will be on Conan and the Today show before the show premieres 3/24, according to TiVo, as well as Tonight Show 3/28. It looks like episodes will rerun on USA, too. |

Pardon me for switching subjects here, but I figured I'd use this thread instead of a new one...
Liking The Office (the original) but not knowing everything about it, I'm curious where to begin buying the DVDs. What's the deal with this "Office Special," and does that come before or after the seasons?

The special is an after season two wrap-up. It returns all of the characters for a last hurrah. |

Ah. So it's just the two seasons and the special. I can afford that.
Thanks for the tip!

I think there is a big box with everything, too, which simplifies things, if you are buying all at once. |

I don't want to exaggerate (no, really) but probably the finest thing from these shores in about, ooh, at least ten years (until the new Doctor Who this weekend ).
Anyone seen the American version yet? _________________ "We hate the French! We fight wars against the French! Did all those men die in vain on the fields of Agincourt? Was the man who burned Joan of Arc just wasting good matches?" |

not yet, it's on tonight. I'll be checking it out. But you know, although I love Steve Carel, I fear he's no Gervais. _________________ I shouldn't get high to come up with ideas. I should come up with ideas, and THEN get high, to reward myself! |

Between Carell's appearance on Conan O'Brien and his guest return to The Daily Show, last night was the funniest night of TV in ages.
I'm not a fan of remade shows in general, but I can't help but root for the success of anything having to do with this guy.

I'm sorry I ate your chocolate squirrel.
I hope people watch the show tonight and keep watching to keep it alive.

I liked it, although it was just a bit too recycled and I recognized most of the jokes from the old one. But there were also moments where they made it their own, and that's when it shined. Hopefully we'll be seeing more like that. If every epidsode ends up being a loose copy of its predecessor, it could get old fast
Carel has the boss down pretty well. I like most of the other actors as well, although the guy doing the Tim character is copying the original Tim's mannerisms just a bit too closely. Still, it's definitely got potential. _________________ I shouldn't get high to come up with ideas. I should come up with ideas, and THEN get high, to reward myself! |

What I've read is that the pilot episode (i.e., the one from tonight) basically used the same script from the British pilot episode -- but that all the subsequent American eps are brand-new. So that bodes well in the "keepin' it fresh" department. _________________ Film reviews, "Snide Remarks," and assorted merriment: EricDSnider.com |

Yeah, I was hoping that would be the case. I mean, what would be the point of just remaking the entire series almost verbatim.
well, in that case, I'm sold. I woke up and started thinking about Carel's "six million dollar man" bit this morning, and laughed my ass awake. _________________ I shouldn't get high to come up with ideas. I should come up with ideas, and THEN get high, to reward myself! |

That would be Coupling, which was to TV what Van Sant's Psycho was to film. Ouch indeed. Good to see Carell's Office going its own way.
Oh, and the original Office box set is on its way to my house as we speak. Thanks again to all for the shopping help.

Against The Amazing Race, Veronica Mars, House, and a film noir double feature att he local rep house? You're kidding, right?
(It's not that Thursday's premiere was bad, but against the buzzsaw of quality television that is Tuesday night, it doesn't measure up) _________________ Blogs: Jay's Movie Blog, Transplanted Life, The Trading Post |

having never watched any of those shows, I wouldn't know.
I find that it simplifies your viewing schedule when you watch very little TV to begin with. _________________ I shouldn't get high to come up with ideas. I should come up with ideas, and THEN get high, to reward myself! |

My God. Carel doing that Chris Rock bit was fucking hysterical, but almost acutely uncomfortable to watch. That's what I love about this show. They take it right to the edge between "Funny" and "Whoa!" _________________ I shouldn't get high to come up with ideas. I should come up with ideas, and THEN get high, to reward myself! |
