I might be a new Peter Howell fan. What do you think Jimmy Stewart would think?

YES! Oz kicks ass again!

I like our new reputation as Hollywood muckrakers.

PS - I wanna order me some HBS stuff too, but every time I go to the page none of the pics display. Anyone else had this problem?

Also reported in today's IMDb Studio Briefing:

Quote:
Phony Reviewers Now Avoid Fan Website

The operator of a movie website who traced several supposedly fan-written movie reviews posted on the site's message board to studio computers says that the phony reviews have halted since his exposť. Chris Parry, who runs Hollywood Bitchslap, told today's (Monday) Toronto Star, "The real return on our work is that we've seen not a single movie hyped in this way for the best part of a month. It may well be happening on other people's Web sites, but the days when we got one or two of these people a day hitting our site are long gone."

I wish they'd quit naming me personally. I'm never going to sell an f'ing screenplay at this rate.

I tell them you, me and Frank run the thing, but since you two don't talk they can't quote you.

My next screenplay will be written by "Ming Pereira".

For those that don't subscribe to it, Total Film Magazine in the UK gave us a nice big write-up shortly before the site went down last week.

EMAIL OF THE SPECIOS
Fake fans (and one very real director) post dodgy web reviews

Despite Sony being caught crediting quotes to a fake critic last year, it looks like studios are still trying any old trick to drum up hype for their films. And the latest is an update of an old ploy. Instead of hiring people to spread word of mouth in the traditional way, Universal has been using posts to internet forums. Writing on eFilmcritic.com, one suck 'fan' raved about 'Undercover Brother', calling it "Hella funny". The dodgy language seemed right, but when website co-owner Chris Parry became suspicious after a number of similar messages arrived, he discovered they'd all come from MCA, owners of Universal. The company held up its hands up to the ploy but argued that the posters were "unpaid volunteers" and still "movie fans". But the idea is not limited to companies. Director Paul Schrader decided to get the review ball rolling on his upcoming 'Auto Focus' with a five-star write-up on Amazon. Calling the film "a shattering portrait of the American male", his attempts at anonymity were stymied when it was revealed that the signing e-mail was his personal one. Ooops...
