Not sure how accurate this thing is, but it's fun. It analyzes a chunk of prose and tells you what famous author (out of a list of 40 or so) that it most resembles:

Sorry, but I, too, write like David Foster Wallace. Henceforth, I will be answering the phone as: "Hello, the next David Foster Wallace speaking." _________________ Charles Tatum's Review Archive |

It's mostly a jerkoff because I submitted 5 different reiews and 4 different authors came up: Dan Brown, Stephen King, H.P. Lovecraft and Vladimir Nabokov. At first I was astounded at that last one coming up based on my review of "Playboy Exposed: Naughty in Nature" until I remembered that he wrote "Lolita". _________________ "Joe the Plumber -- you can quote me -- is a dumbass." -- Meghan McCain |

I had the same fun doing it for individual paragraphs: So far I got: Lovecraft, Wallace, Wodehouse, Wilde, Dan Brown, Arthur C. Clarke. I write like everybody and nobody.
I tried pitting real authors against themselves. If a few paragraphs of Oscar Wilde returned Oscar Wilde, a paragraph of "Bleak House" returned P.G. Wodehouse. Oh, Charlie, you time-traveling hack. |
