Kinda reminds me of the now-infamous DVD Beaver screencap comparison of Blue. _________________ But I wish the public could, in the midst of its pleasures, see how blatantly it is being spoon-fed, and ask for slightly better dreams.

Was reminded of what I wrote about this pathetic artsy horror film called The Item -- that overly-artsy people would declare something as validly artsy just for the sole sake of it being artsy, whether it succeeded or not, and that soon a filmmaker would just have a black screen and nothing else from start to finish, and it would be declared some kind of daringly artsy achievement.
Going by this DVD, it looks like I wasn't too far off -- unfortunately.

That has to be some kind of joke. It had me for a little, but when there was mention of Catcher in the Rye or Oedipus Rex, I thought this had to be some kind of strange gag.
Either way, if it's real, my film professor would probably love it, seeing as how he recommended to the class a film which was nothing but an hour of a bright strobe light flashing at you. I mean, I try to be as open minded as possible when it comes to different kinds of films, but I sometimes just don't see the point. At least something experimental with actual images has the chance of creating SOME kind of valuable meaning. |

Well, look on the bright side: At least he doesn't seem like the type to screen frigging Citizen Kane, like almost all film professors (including mine) did and still do. _________________ "Joe the Plumber -- you can quote me -- is a dumbass." -- Meghan McCain |

It must be, since that fits what I saw to a T. |

He didn't, but that's just because it was screened by my first year professor. It was a little strange (and quite refreshing, actually) when I had to write a compare and contrast essay on Kane and Pretty Woman. |

Take for instance: 'A Zed & Two Noughts'

The Flicker is actually pretty amazing. It's basically that strobe-light effect at the end of Irreversible, only it goes on and on and on. Extremely trippy. It's probably best to see it in a theater, like I did.

I doubt I could. I had to avert my eyes during the strobe at the end of Irreversible. I'm not epileptic that I know of, but my eyes can't hack shit like that. _________________ But I wish the public could, in the midst of its pleasures, see how blatantly it is being spoon-fed, and ask for slightly better dreams.

So you got all the way to the end of Irreversible before you had to avert your eyes?

Heh. Who are you, Michael Haneke or something?
The fire-extinguisher bit did make me wince (but at the same time, the part of me that grew up reading Fangoria went "Holy shit, how'd they do that?"). But the rape scene was essentially a prolonged version of similar scenes in I Spit on Your Grave. And then after that there's nothing eye-avertingly harsh. _________________ But I wish the public could, in the midst of its pleasures, see how blatantly it is being spoon-fed, and ask for slightly better dreams.

With Irreversible, I never could quite understand Rex Reed's recommendation of the film when he named Blue Velvet the worst film of 1986 for being "repulsive". _________________ "Joe the Plumber -- you can quote me -- is a dumbass." -- Meghan McCain |
