From a review by Peter S of Betwitched.

Quote:
The other key problem at this point is that Kidman and director/co-writer Nora Ephron have fatally miscalculated the approach to take towards the character of Isabel–she is supposed to be pure and innocent–or as pure or innocent as witches get–but she comes off as someone suffering from some kind of mental handicap–imagine Chance the Gardener without the wit or social skills. (On the other hand, such a development might explain her otherwise inexplicable fascination with Jack.)

Things get more convoluted once production begins and Jack reverts to his egocentric ways by making diva demands (“I want you to make me twenty espressos and bring me the best one!”) and hamming it up in order to steal focus from his co-star. Before long, Isabel decides to get back at him by deploying her powers to trip him up–forcing him to speak gibberish instead of the written dialogue

He does the same thing in EVERY DAMN MOVIE! See? I'm not insane!!!!!
HA-ha-ha-ha!!!!!

True. But that's fine when it's funny. It's when it's not that I have a problem with it.

I thought the "get back at him by deploying her powers to trip him up–forcing him to speak gibberish" bit was in a Jim Carrey movie, not a Will Ferrell movie. What Ferrell movie are you thinking of?

Anchorman where the Tele-Prompter is tampered with.

Yeah, sorry, I don't follow that logic.

I'm not real tempted to see Bewitched (what's with Kidman's Marilyn M onroe impersonation?), but I can't agree that Ferrell is hateable. Man's a genius, and a genuinely nice guy to boot.

Oz - Killed a man with a trident.

Even if it WERE the same thing as what happened in "Anchorman," that would hardly constitute "every movie." If you gonna go hatin' on Will Ferrell, do it somewheres else, yo.

He does have a point, though, about how Farrell does the same shtick in every film. Whether it actually works, though, depends on how good the movie is. The script for Anchorman was funny. The script for Kicking and Screaming, not so much.

The trailer was enough to stop me from seeing Kicking and Screaming.

Bark twice if you're in Milwaukee.

Will Ferrell makes me laugh... lots. And that's his job -- to make people laugh. So, because he does his job well, I'm not going to entertain the idea of him being some kind of hack, unless of course he no longer does his job well.

Melinda and Melinda, anyone?

Maybe he's going for the schtick because people will go to a movie for a known commodity.

Brian agrees with me! See, I'm not insane <not Cruise level at the very least>

Actually I've been on this site for years under one name or another and hope to haunt it for decades to come. Or until I get a girlfriend. Besides is Old School really this generations Animal House? You want to hate Ferrell too? Watch the Suburbans..but I admit, God help me, I loved Night at the Roxbury.

Didn't miss miuch.

Samantha used magic like Christina Applegate used the Tele-Promter to have Ferrell say nonsense. It's not THAT different.

Hey, how about a new subject....

Frankly - this'll sound weird.

Tom Cruise in a slapstick comedy
Burton's style injected into a documentary
Todd "Candyman" Todd in a romantic comedy
Stephen King love story
Steven Segall...drama about a dad with kids..can't hit anyone
Chris Rock playing..eh...not Chris Rock
Kevin Smith doing a sci-fi movie.
Tarantino...hm...doing a sci-fi movie?

Thoughts? Ideas?
