People that bitch about one television show or music genre, but love their own equally lame ass television show/music genre to the death! You see it a lot in high school. Why anyone would worry about what another person spends their time on is beyond me.

Outback Steakhouse - period. The menu is full of supposedly Australian saying that no Australian has said since 1932, half of them are spelled wrong, you never find an Australian actually working at one of these places, the best Australian beers aren't available at the bar, and the food they serve is nothing like anything I've ever eaten in Australia - ever.

"G'doy moit, would you be interested in our Goanna Burger special today? It's byeooooody!"

And they don't even get real Australians to do the radio voiceovers... and the TV ads seem to feel that all Australians wear slouch hats and dance around desert campfires for fun... ugh.

Whenever I hear Americans (or anybody for that matter) try and do an Australian accent, to me they sound like New Zealanders. Though I guess most people would find it tricky try to distinguish between the accents of New Zealanders (like Russell Crowe or Anna Paquin) and Australians (Heath Ledger and Nicole Kidman).

Stuff like The Crocodile Hunter and Outback Steakhouse are gut-wrenchingly embarrassing. Not to mention distressingly inaccurate.

Unlike our view of Americans which is entirely accurate.

We get our view of what Americans are really like from the NRA, Martin Lawrence, Jerry Springer and George W Bush.

Right now I'm watching a NZ flick called Crime 101 (known in its native land as Scarfies). I always thought there was, but it seems there's little similarity at ALL between the NZ and the Aussie accents.

The New Zealand accent is lighter, a bit more British. The Ozzie accent is hearty and distinctive. (Of course I'm sure the accents of each country would vary wildly based on where you were located. My Philadelphia accent would never be mistaken for a Georgia or a Boston.)

Actually they don't - at least in Australia.

Most people in Australia aren't able to identify another Australian's origin purely on accent.

The accent tends to get thinker as you head inland (or further from major cities), but that's about it.

Hmm, if you've got that Heavenly Creatures DVD (and you should - it's Peter Jackson's best film - truly) then you'll hear Kate Winslet's upper class English accent in amongst all those NZ accents. There's a similarity?

NZers have shorter vowel sounds than us and the English. Australians have such long vowel sounds that we almost add an extra syllable. It's something we inherited from the Irish.

Language language language . . .

Now I'm watching a 1978 horror flick called Patrick. I remember seeing parts of it when I was a kid, so I go to look it up on IMDb. Hey it was made in Australia by Richard Franklin (an Ozzer).

Coincidence???

Well, yeah. Clearly.

I've seen that film. Late night on TV.

Lead is a woman who's a nurse and she gets spooked by this guy who's in a coma. He communicates to her via a typewriter, if I recall correctly. Everybody thinks she's wack.

Can't remember how it ends - I probably fell asleep . . .

Anyway...

I hate peaches. I hate the fuzz, I hate the pit, I hate the smell, I hate the taste, I hate everything about them. A cling peach in a can of syrup is so repulsive I want to die.

Scott - Couldn't agree with you more on the escalator thing. Even if I did spell it wrong, which I probably did. I was at the mall the other day with my friends. I was about to go into a little shop to get some porn, because porn kicks ass, and the escalator near the shop crashed. There were 3-4 teenagers on there, and they started banging on the escalator, jumping on the sides, expecting it to move after they hit it. I come out of the store 15 minutes later with a plain brown bag, the assholes are still out there, banging the unholy hell out of the thing like it'll make a fucking difference. IT'S BROKEN. WALK, ASSHOLES. Holy shit people are stupid.

Maegs - SUV's piss me off. Unless you regularly go to the mountains, there's no need for one. And I doubt every third asshole on the road goes camping monthly.

And I think we're missing the worst everyday thing here. Can't spell crap without rap!

Generally I agree on this "SUV bad" debate, since I own a Honda, but if you live in Alaska, sometimes it can be a defense mechanism. haha. I mean, if my dad was driving an SUV instead of a Saab when he hit a moose on the highway it might have saved him from getting a good percentage of the bones in his face crushed.

I think most people would agree that SUVs would certainly be appropriate if you live in a rugged or exapnsive terrain.

I live surrounded by interstates and parking lots. Nobody here needs a fucking SUV.

That's the thing, though, we were in the city!

It was probably useful there, too, when in some kind of freak accident, Anchorage got, like, three feet of snow there last year and no one could drive at all. I'm glad I moved away the year before.

And all those roads are paved! It's not like Northern Exposure!

People who are paid to answer the phone but can't help but be rude to anyone with the misfortune of having to call them for something. It's especially irritating trying to deal with healthcare professionals, it seems. They know you don't really have a choice. You're sick. What else are you gonna do?

People who perpetually bash movies that are considered 'easy bashes'. The Phantom Menace came out 4 years ago and people are STILL whining about it.

Yet Patch Adams lives on unmolested.

Nothing about humanity depresses me more than 'herd mentality'.

Our local radio station went almost exclusively rap/hip hop a while back. Now, I don't listen to the radio. I also took VH1, MTV and MTV2 off the remote because I could not take the constant "uh-uh," "ticka-ticka," and Missy Elliott sticking her tongue out at me one more time. Although she's not really hip hop or rap, I do enjoy myself a Pink video once in a while.

That expression has never filtered down to Texas -- and I hope like hell it never does.

Charles- I was never a believer until I got it. XM is worth its weight in gold!

Jack- Be prepared, it's here in OKC.

Yesterday was the worst drive home I've had since the tornado.
A mess of reasons why I wish I had the Pontiac GTO from XXX yesterday.
Some old bat doing 40 in a 55. The dickhead at the 4 way stop who thought he had right of way, stopped when he saw me proceed, and as I slowed down in the middle to avoid one of OK's massive potholes, the jackass continued on almost hitting my side. The old bat was 1/2 mile ahead of me....caught up with her. Not tailgating her, at least 5 car lengths back, she slows down to like 20 almost , but not so I can pass with traffic heading opposite direction. Agh!
Get into the 45 zone and she does like 55!!! What a mindfuck!!!!

All high speed internet providers who won't just transfer the existing account that's in the name of the roommate that's moving out. Oh no. They have to shut it off, then make you wait 2 weeks for them to set it up again at the same fucking address. And you have to put up with it because they're the only game in your area and they got you by the scrote and they know it. Fuckers.

good question. I'm not sure what my average bandwidth is. It just varies between areas and providers

Oh great, the French are copying our shitty reality-TV shows into their own shitty Reality TV shows? It never ends Mad
