"Right! Stop this review right now! It's too silly!"
If, for some reason, you have never even been exposed to any of Monty Python's humor, this movie is a wonderful introduction to the fine art of their trade. This was actually the British troupe's first foray into film (Holy Grail came second), shot in 1971. The Pythons (Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin) had two seasons of their "Monty Python's Flying Circus" TV show under their belt already, and when they struck a deal with Columbia Pictures to make a movie that would be released Stateside, they assembled their best sketches from those two TV seasons into a rapid-fire stream-of-consciousness celluloid romp.
Among the featured bits: (deep breath) Lumberjack Song, Upperclass Twit-of-the-Year Competition, Blackmail, The Killer Cars, How Not To Be Seen, Defending Yourself Against A Banana, Hell's Grannies, The "Spot" fairy tale.... the list goes on and on.If you're already a hardcore Pythonhead, don't bother... you've seen this shit before. But if, God forbid, you've never heard of Monty Python, pick this video up and laugh your arse off.
