"The new number one on my Must-miss-movie-list (I missed Deuce...)"
1 stars

Pool cleaners by day, Tripp and KC Carlyle dream of making it to the Holy Grail of motocross - the Supercross in Las Vegas. Unfortunately, as everyone knows (well, if they know anything about racing at least), only the factory riders -those riders sponsored by the major bike companies - make it to the big show. And with barely enough money to pay for a round of drinks at the bar, the Carlyle brothers futureís seem bleak indeed. Everything changes when, out of the blue, KC gets the brass ring: the chance to ride with a major league sponsor Will the brothers' lives may ever be the same again? Will KC win the big championship? More importantly, does anyone actually care?

Apparently there is an unwritten rule that one of the studios has to release at least one exceptionally bad movie every week in the summer. Since Sony bit the bullet with Stealth and Deuce Bigelow in recent weeks, someone else had to jump on the sword. The honor, or more appropriately dishonor, this week, goes to Supercross. With one of the executive producers (there were I believe six of them who had a hand in the movie) in the audience, it was the proverbial recipe for disaster: there was a series of technical screw-ups that plagued the proceedings before the movie even began. There were no fewer than four miscues, lighting problems and repeated attempts to find the right aspect ratio with the lenses. This comedy of errors was a appropriate setup for what was to come.

First off, Aaron Carter? Isn't his singing bad enough? Thankfully he only has two lines, both of which were totally irrelevant to the proceedings. Not that anyone or anything was particularly relevant: the story was ridiculously predictable, the dialogue was insipid and the acting was atrocious. The farce didnít end there: the cinematography was washed out and grainy, the editing haphazard and the split screen scenes were downright annoying. And while I'm all for equal opportunity when it comes to having people run around without shirts, next time they need to consider casting some guys who are a little more buff - these guys could use a little time on the treadmill, and a few more pushups wouldn't hurt either.

The most egregious thing about Supercross however is that it manages to make a dynamic adrenaline sport look boring. There are the requisite jump sequences and over-the-handlebar cam shots, but everytime I was beginning to enjoy the experience, they cut away to the paper thin "story" , killing any pacing that it enjoyed.

While Supercross the sport may have the potential be the next upcoming audience favorite as claimed by the press note, Supercross the movie has done nothing to help the cause. If you must see riders risking their lives, check out the X-Games. Clocking in at 82 minutes, this movie is about 62 minutes too long.
