"While it's still a fun film, it's not a patch on the first."
The story is the same, the cast is mostly similar, take away the ones who died, add the fat kid from Stand By Me - welcome to Scream 2.
What started as a parody of schlock horror film has become what it set out to make fun of.
The story is contrived, the subtle messing of your mind has become an unsubtle feed-trough for starfuckers and generally it disappoints.Kevin Williamson seems to be a one-trick pony. After going to the well with the original Scream, he followed it up with I Know What You Did Last Summer, then Scream 2, then Halloween H20 and now the upcoming sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, and the theme hasn't changed.
It's like telling a really funny joke then, as everyone laughs at the punchline, explaining it. Then explaining it further. And further. Eventually the laughter stops and everyone looks at each other as if to say "alright, enough already".
That's not to say this is an all-round awful movie, frankly it's not bad, it's just to say that Scream 2 is what it set out to be. A mere copy of the original. And like all copies and clones, it loses some of the quality of the original.
