"Good FX, good story, good movie, what else?"
5 stars

I remember way back when this movie was released, I went to see it with my mom, and I personally liked it. You may think that back then I was just a spoiled brat talking spoiled shit, no, I liked it because it looked real. And still up to this day Steven Spielberg's blockbuster hit "Jurassic Park" still has the ability to raise a few eyebrows, and its one of the few moments in a movie where everything worked just right. Its not Oscar material but at least it entertains.

Scientific madman John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) is preparing and investing an enormous project to create a theme park on an island. The stars would be the dinosaurs, thanks to the development of genetic technology; the Dinosaurs are brought back to life after 65 million years of being extinct. Unfortunately during the process a worker dies, and the investors are growing very frightened if what else could happen. So to calm the investors down he decides to test the facility by bringing an expert paleontologist Dr. Allan Grant (Sam Neill), a paleobotanist Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), a mathematician theorist Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), and his grandchildren Lex (Ariana Richards) and Tim (Joseph Mazzello) and finally the investors' lawyer Donald Gennaro (Martin Ferrero). Unbeknownst of whatís going on, a competitor hires a computer tech Dennis Nedry (Wayne Knight), to infiltrate the park as an employee, which he already is, and steal the dinosaur embryos. Later as the film passes, that evidently happens, while the others are in for the tour, and a storm approaches, Nedry shuts the place down deliberately to get by safely and steals them, or at least in the later part, he tried. The dinosaurs are loose, and the fight for survival begins.

One main thing that we have to praise here are the special effects, all thanks to technology. The effects of showing us the dinosaurs are perfectly executed, that when you see it, you start thinking that itís real. Of course, the dinosaurs not only need to look real but to sound real. And man, they also accomplished that in a great way too. The T-Rex was scary and the Velociraptors too, enough for your kids to shit on their pants. The story just goes along smoothly, though thereís a little flaw that I caught. The flaw involves the characters themselves, which are not well developed and are just there as spectators for screaming and running. We never know the backgrounds of Grant and Sattler and Malcolm and even more from John Hammond, and in the scenes where the character development should start, they only cover superficial things, so the characters are left in shallow water. Of course the character development is in the book, but no matter if the book were better than the movie, there would have been at least a form of character development, and from what I saw here, they skipped that step. Fortunately, thanks to the action scenes and the rest of the movie, that affects little if any, on the rest of the movie. And despite those deficiencies the performances were great from all of the actors, that and the rest of the script, it makes most of it up.

In the end, its great movie, or call it a popcorn movie, but by any means and despite a few flaws is basically a good film. For the casual viewer, no disappointments and a good enjoyment.
