2 stars (Pretty Bad)

J. Lee Thompson's entry in the slasher sweepstakes, done up with the usual lack of style.

It's actually more of a cross between a slasher film and a whodunit, and has gained respect in some undiscriminating circles. Melissa Sue Anderson (a long way from Little House on the Prairie) stars as a disturbed college student who has (A) had brain surgery and (B) lost her mother in a car accident (A) and (B) are the movie's only really effective scenes. She gets very nervous when her classmates keep dying in various interesting ways a shish-kebab in the mouth, a heavy barbell dropped on the neck. Is she the killer? A question for the ages. For those who care, the violence was originally more graphic, but was toned down for later screenings.

With Glenn Ford, future soap star Tracy Bregman, and Lawrence Dane. Thompson had done two of the 'Planet of the Apes' movies. After this he fell back on frequent collaborator Charles Bronson for '10 to Midnight.'
