Cheap, cheesy ripoff of "I Know What You Did Last Summer," which was a sorry excuse of a cheap and cheesy horror movie in the first place. The low grade production is filled with B-grade actors, B-grade moviemaking, and F-grade copycatting; this is for the extremely bored or horny only.Typical high school aged setting, teens go to Lover's Lane to get topless and have a little foreplay before getting sliced by a hook-wielding maniac. Flashback 10-years where the small town's sheriff's wife, and a school nurse's husband are slaughtered together, creating a scandal. Both survivors have young kids. The killer is placed in a mental institution in town.
Back to present day, he has escaped, and now the two kids are targeted --but, there's more than one maniac, and when all the real intentions of these fatuous characters and the asinine plot has been uplifted, you can laugh at the extreme patheticness exhibited.
This has been done before, and most obviously from the aforementioned yarny flick. The one center of interest in "Lover's Lane" that is worth recognition is actress Anna Faris, a newcomer. She's cute, all pouty-mouthed and naïve, with the stupid cheerleading costume she never changes out of. And besides, she's much more appealing than Jennifer Love Hewitt.
Erin J. Dean as Mandy also sort-of stood out among the unprofessionalism displayed, but is still nothing to brag about. The camera-work is for the most part agreeable. However, the director here is nothing more than another technician on the set. His name isn't worth mention, and he isn't even worthy of being labeled as a metteur-èn-scene.Final Verdict: D-
