"Sperro is sexy but the plot's BAD!!!!!"
3 stars

Promising tale about a neurotic isolated wife left alone to cope with a talented gay (must be a tautology!) son mixing it up with a less than wholesome lover and then (allegedly) being responsible for his murder.

The cinematography is excellent with symbolic splashes of red for murder/passion/romantic love. However, the plot falls away when realism floats out the window. The unattractive mother is then blackmailed by the wonderfully masculine, handsome blackmailer (don't think they exist), Sperro. Gradually he comes to understand his prey could well be his lover and he slowly backs away from the chase. Head blackmailer Nagel, who has some shadowy connection to her absent husband, takes over and Sperro is left to come to the rescue. But will he rescue her in time before she confesses all to the police? Isn't the web of clues all too obvious?

In the end Sperro dies heroically and we are left with the unresolved mouth-hovering almost kiss between abuser and victim. Just before he dies Sperro almost tells her something, "I'm not…" The most bemusing part of the movie is then left to the audience to work out what Sperro could have said. Was he going to say "I'm not going to die"? or was he going to say "I'm not going to have unprotected sex with you"?? Who knows, we didn't. But at least we had fun thinking of all the potential one liners that could have happened. Unfortunately, we really can't credit the film-maker with that though…
