"Worth a look, but don't think too hard about it."
An exercise in inevitability.....I saw this movie with a crowd of people, and for some reason, I was the only one who saw the ending coming. About forty-five minutes before the end of the film, I realized what the flashback at the beginning was all about, and had to sit down and wait for everything to fall apart.
I hate that. It wasn't as bad as seeing "Titanic", but it still ruined the ending for me.
Don't get me wrong, it's an excellent movie. Brad Pitt gives his best performance ever, in anything, and Bruce Willis actually plays someone other than Bruce Willis for once. The cast did a great job.
I mean, face it, it's Terry Gilliam. He's one of the world's finest directors. How much could it suck? "12 Monkeys" is visually stunning, well-directed, and pretty well scripted. It's just unfortunate that today's audiences have to be beaten over the head to make them understand simple plot tricks. Otherwise, Gilliam could have made the whole connection between the past and the future much more subtle.See it, if only to see Brad Pitt do some real work.
