"They're not shy, they're contagious."
4 stars

A sequel worthy of the original.

Most of the original players are back, and the story's a bit thicker this time around.

Morticia (Anjelica Huston) is pregnant, and the family is ecstatic. Except for Wednesday and Pugsley (Christina Ricci and Jimmy Workman, respectively) who have their own little case of sibling rivalry going. The attention they get soon shifts to the new baby, Pubert (complete with slicked back hair and pencil-thin moustache, just like dad) and the other kids get a little rambunctious ("We just wanna play with him," Pugsley says. "Especially his head," Wednesday replies.) The family hires a new nanny, Debbie Jellinsky (Joan Cusack), who turns out to be quite the gold digger. She marries rich men and then offs them, and who might her next target be?

The kids get shipped off to (gasp!) summer camp, Fester gets married and moves away from the family and takes the money with him. Wednesday and Pugsley figure out what's going on; will they get out in time?

Well, duh.

There are moments where this is actually funnier than the original. Ricci has the deadpan Wednesday down pat, and Cusack is a hoot. The dark humor is still intact (Baby Pubert has a mobile above his crib made of butcher knives), and it's still pretty funny.

Rent it.
